DESCRIPTION:

The medical publications writer will focus on developing content for abstracts, posters and PowerPoint presentations for medical meetings as well as full-length manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 4 years working in a similar position for a pharmaceutical or medical device company
  • Bachelor’s with higher degree preferred

2) Medical Communications Manager – Full Time Position (San Francisco Bay Area) FG54T

DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for supporting publication strategies, developing, and implementing the Publication Plan for the company’s scientific programs. Reviews and edits articles as appropriate to the highest level consistent with submission standards. Oversight and tracking of educational grants. Support of all other Medical Affairs activities as necessary, that may include thought leader (TL) management, investigator initiated trials (IITs). All responsibilities are carried out following company policies and regulatory guidance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements the Publication Plan for all the Company’s scientific programs and products to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Maintains a complete and accurate directory of all publications, projects, timelines, and expectations. Regularly updates database for documentation of compliance with publication policy.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining the appropriate review process with the publication review team.
  • Collects and interprets pertinent internal and external documents and studies that provide scientific or economic rationale for the use of the Company’s products.
  • Prioritizes and prepares articles and abstracts for timely peer-reviewed publication in major clinical and medical journals, posters, clinical study manuscripts, review articles, monographs, and slide drafts.
  • Initiates first draft of manuscripts, when necessary
  • Reviews and edits articles etc., prepared by medical writers for content and style to the highest level consistent with internal standards and author acceptability.
  • Assists with periodic regulatory updates and sNDAs and NDAs.
  • Helps to establish and maintain the publication policy of the company.
  • Archives, retrieves, and disseminates pertinent data, product and competitive bibliographies and literature, customer profiles, and product scientific, educational and review materials.
  • Maintains current awareness of published literature, regulations, guidelines, procedures, and practices as it relates to the Company’s Scientific programs, product line, and competitor products.
  • Coordinates the educational grants and IITs processes.
  • Assists in tracking and record maintenance of educational grants and IITs.
  • Creates a system for collecting and maintaining updated information about TLs. Collaborates with other departments regarding their TLs information needs.
  • Reports to VP, Clinical Dev & Medical Affairs

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to prioritize, work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to critically evaluate and interpret complex medical data and good literature evaluation skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Has extensive experience in relevant profession and area of specialization.
  • Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Identifies and implements methods and procedures to achieve results.
  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Has complete understanding and wide application of scientific principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Has good general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Applies strong analytical and business communication skills.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience and/or combination of experience and education/training
  • 1-3 years of experience in scientific/medical/pharmaceutical area in publication planning. Additional experience in grants and IITs preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical science, preferably in pharmaceutical industry focusing on pulmonary drug delivery.
  • BS/BA degree in related discipline and 4 years of related experience or MS/MA degree in related discipline and 2 years of related experience.
